IMF Boss blog is back!

With the current term of IMF managing director, Kristalina Georgieva, ending in September, the IMF has a new opportunity to reform the selection process of the Fund’s top leadership.

We are opening this space for partners, academics and anyone interested to push once again for an end to the gentleman’s agreement, the unjust and undemocratic selection process that has characterised the leadership ‘race’ at the BWIs for decades.

International institutions currently face a crisis of legitimacy, as faith in the multilateral system of global governance withers. If the IMF and World Bank want to present themselves as modern institutions capable of tackling today’s challenges, it is imperative that they become democratic and accountable to all of those they represent. Accountability starts from the top, with changing the way the World Bank president and the IMF managing director has been selected.

We hope that the readership will enjoy a lively discussion about the characteristics required of the IMF’s new leader and ensuring the process is finally democratic and transparent!
